As part of Ivanhoe Grammar School's year 9 out-of-classroom-experience program, students are taken to Latrobe University in Bundoora to take part in Prof. Hoogenraad's student program. His goal is to give an oppertunity for many students to experience university life, before making the choice of subject selections in senior years.
Students experience; sitting through lectures, touring the campus, being surrounded by real uni students and get to feel the responsibility of their own life with the freedom of choice. Lastly, students are placed in a group of 3, according to their individual interests and are encouraged to complete a project on a Scientific Topic of their choice. To complete the task, interviews, study and co-operation is involved to create an informative presentation about the 2 weeks spent at university. This group has chosen to create a blog on the technology involved in the disease known as cancer. Enjoy!
